Great tool and teaching book April 29, 2008 After looking at the library copy of Jack Reid's books on water color tecnniques, I knew it was the best way to learn and feel confident that I can do it! I had to have a copy of my own. The illustrations are great as the painting develops step-by-step, gently leading me to a new skill. Enjoyable confidence builder. Also, Mr. Reid's approach on materials is easy on the budget and makes the picture more important than the kind of brush that paints it. Styrofoam and twigs are right up my alley.
Great lessons to practice with January 27, 2008 I would recommend this book to everyone to get so that you can practice watercolor techniques. Like all the other books in this series, you can't go wrong adding it to your collection.
Fantastic January 18, 2008 This is the least intimidating instruction book I have found for the watercolor medium. I have had to teach myself to think in simpler, less detailed ways to improve my art and this reference has helped. This was the first book I came across that made me think 'I can do this' rather than 'I wish I could do that'. Well done, Mr. Reid.
Best beginner book December 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had thought it would be fun to try watercolor painting as I had always admired enjoyed the work of others. After looking unsuccessfully for a teacher, I started reading books about beginning watercolor. After looking at several books from the library, I decided to purchase this one.
As an older adult with no previous experience in watercolor painting, this book has been a wonderful source for me. After the first three chapters and lots of practice on the techniques introduced, I have been able to turn out paintings of my own that are acceptable. I think that the author has included practice pictures that are interesting enough that I did not mind painting them again and again in order to improve my skill with the technique. I will continue to follow the lessons throughout the rest of the book, and no doubt, improve.
Water color class October 18, 2007 A very good instruction book recommended by instructor for an 8-week water color class for senior citizens.
